Bespoke RV hides sports car in mobile garage

Image
If pop-up rooftop tents, modular campers, and teardrop trailers all seem too tiny to fit everything you want to take to camp, we’ve got an over-the-top solution. Behold the Volkner Mobil Performance S: A motorhome so large you can bring everything and the kitchen sink. Literally. The Volkner Mobil Performance S comes with a central garage to store your sports car.   All photos courtesy of Volkner Mobil Made in Germany, the 40-foot Performance S is the ultimate luxury RV and it’s so big that we might as well call it a bus. The most extravagant amenity on this behemoth of a camper is the central garage that’s large enough to hold a Porsche, Ferrari, or a two-door Mercedes. You know, your other ridiculously expensive and impractical vehicle. The car is carefully placed into the middle garage at the push of a button with an electrohydraulic lift that’s probably nicer than most elevators. As one might expect for the $1.75 million price tag, the Performance S is completely customizable. ...

All-electric motorhome is completely covered in solar panels

Image
Solar home tech has tackled everything from roof tiles to plug-and-play power systems, but campers and RVs generally only have a few solar panels on top. That’s usually plenty to power electrical systems when you’re camping off-the-grid for a few days, but a new concept from German company Dethleffs has stepped up the solar game. Dethleffs via New Atlas Similar to Volkswagen’s plans for a new electric minibus, the Dethleffs e.home Type C motorhome combines a zero-emissions powertrain with tons of smart technologies inside. And it’s all powered by the head-to-toe solar panels affixed to the camper’s exterior. Larger than some of the electric adventure vans out there—which are almost always Class B vans—the e.home motorhome uses an Iveco Daily Electric chassis that normally has a 174 mile range without the larger camper trim. All of the extra weight would no doubt limit that range, so Dethleffs has added 334 square feet of thin-film solar panels that can generate up to 3,000 watts of...

Italian car company Fiat goes big with sporty camper vans

Image
Anyone who’s traveled to Europe is familiar with the Italian automobile company Fiat—their supermini cars and tiny four-doors have been zipping around cities there for over a century. All images courtesy of Fiat But while Fiat has made a name for itself with economical compact cars, the company also makes camper vans. The Fiat Ducato Camper allows customers an endless array of options: five different wheelbases, six different chassis lengths, and four types of engines. Taken together, that means that there are 600 different ways to build the Ducato camper van. Interiors boast neutral cabins in browns or grays, two retractable flat-screen televisions, a convection stovetop for cooking, a sink, and a king-size bed that easily sleeps two. Sleek paneling covers everything securely while you’re driving, and well-placed lighting makes the van feel roomy inside. The Ducato comes in a sporty, two-tone paint finish, has an LED-light bar and a front winch, and includes places to tie down all...

You can a...
